Rebound
Martin Lawrence ("Black Knight") falls flat as an excitable college basketball coach relegated to coaching a junior high basketball team after a courtside temper tantrum gets him banned from the college league. Plot comparisons with "Juwanna Mann" (2002) and "Coach Carter" (2005) occur beneath a heap of hollow cliches that bury "Rebound" in its own hackneyed trappings. Coach Roy (Lawrence) finds his true calling by teaching a bunch of physically challenged losers that he transforms into a winning basketball team while seducing the attractive single mother of his star player. Even the teenaged misfit audiences to whom "Rebound" is targeted will lose patience with the film's uninspired gags and lazy writing.
Rated PG. 103 mins. (D) (One Star)
