Conversations With Other Women
Director Hans Canosa has made a split-screen experimental student film about two would-be lovers who connect after a wedding party in New York City. The woman (Helena Bonham Carter) and the man (Aaron Eckhart) remain on separate sides of the screen even as they co-exist from ballroom to bedroom wearing pained insecurities on their sleeves. Flashback revelations of a shared history collide with disclosures about the significant or insignificant others that they are cheating on. Gabrielle Zevin’s tawdry and tedious script flies in the face of earnest performances by Carter and Eckhart.
Rated R. 84 mins. (D+) (One Star)
