Political-thriller director Costa Gravas' highly personal examination of an American war crime trial is a stand-alone example of a full-bodied courtroom drama. Jessica Lange plays Chicago defense attorney Ann Talbot, who comes to her Hungarian immigrant father's defense when he is accused and tried for heinous war crimes that he allegedly committed 50 years earlier. Armin Mueller-Stahl gives a piercing performance as Mike Laszlo, the accused father, and Jessica Lange gives one of her finest performances as a daughter at odds with loyalty and truth.
Rated PG-13. 126 mins. (A) (Five Stars)
