Shy boy falls for porn star girl in this dreadful recycling of “Risky Business,” with Emile Hirsch doing the honors as a high school senior with political desires who gets derailed from his studies when new girl-with-a-secret Elisha Cuthbert (“Old School”) begins house sitting next door.
The rambling movie is more concerned with titillating audiences with nudity and lewd situations than with sticking to a consistent tone of romantic comedy.
The writing team of “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder” (David Wagner and Brent Goldberg) crafted “The Girl Next Door” as a satire about conflicting levels of sexual experience among teens, but fail to connect the significance of erotic pleasure to the emotional demands of budding adults.
Rated R. 109 mins.
