The September Issue
Documentarian R.J. Cutler manages the impossible--revealing the notoriously aloof Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's personality behind the ice queen facade. The director also takes the audience on a crash course through the demanding editorial process that Wintour and her longtime creative director, former model, Grace Coddington go through in putting together Vogue's annual "September Issue" of current fashions. Wintour lets down her guard slightly during an interview segment where she discloses the rivalry between her and her overachieving siblings--her insecurity comes flooding across the screen in spite of all attempts to keep a brave face. One thing's for sure, no human being on the planet has a keener editorial eye for fashion and fashion photography as Anna Wintour. After putting Grace through repeated editorial ordeals, Wintour compliments her creative director explaining what indispensable genius Grace affords Vogue. Here is one fun biopic-documentary to inspire admiration and understanding for the wacky world of high fashion as controlled by the hardest working woman in the business, Anna Wintour.
