LAST TANGO IN PARIS — BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI

Mike broke out Wavy Tropics Guava Pale Ale from Kills Boro Brewing for our discussion of Bertolucci's LAST TANGO IN PARIS even if we had planned to do Lars von Trier's MANDERLAY for this, our 99th episode. Check out my silent shout-out to THE STRYPES if you go to ColeSmithey.com. Bon appetite!

PORTRAIT OF JASON — SHIRLEY CLARKE

Cole and Mike dig Shirley Clarke's magnificent cinéma vérité work which showcases a gay black Mark Twain of African American experience up to this film's 1967 filming. Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout Nitro gave us the craft beer delight we desired for our movie chat. Bon appetite!

IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES — Nagisa Oshima

Smuttynose Imperial Stout gives Cole and Mike the liquid foundation needed to discuss one of the most legendary and notorious films of Japanese Cinema. Non-simulated sex. You bet. You'll need a full set of utensils for this feast, so get out your forks, spoons, and the sharpest knives you can find — you'll know why. Bon appetite Bouffers.

VIVRE SA VIE — JEAN LUC GODARD

Jean-Luc Godard's fourth film features Godard's wife-at-the-time Anna Karina as an actress-turned-prostitute in this ground breaking example of the French New Wave. Stone Delicious IPA seemed like the perfect beer to go along with this equally attractive film.

MURMUR OF THE HEART — LOUIS MALLE

FilmStruck is the cinematic well that keeps giving. In keeping with our agreement to kick of 2018 with four French films, Cole picked Malle's MURMUR OF THE HEART. The Truth IPA from Flying Dog Brewing hit just right bitter notes to go along with our discussion. Bon appetite.

Editorial cartoonist and author Ted Rall joins us to drink some SANTILLI IPA from NIGHT SHIFT BREWING out of Everett, Ma (because The Friends of Eddie Coyle is set all around Boston). Ted even spills the beans on his new graphic novel about the Pope. Bon appetite.

THE AMERICAN FRIEND — WIM WENDERS w/ Guest Co-Host ADAM SCARTOFF

New York City podcast legend Adam Schartoff of FilmWax Radio came on the show to talk about one of his favorite films (Wim Wenders's THE AMERICAN FRIEND), and to plug his current Kickstarter campaign to expand FilmWax. Was it a coincidence that I'm working on a video essay dedicated to Wim Wenders? Yep. Not to mention that THE AMERICAN FRIEND is currently streaming on FilmStruck.

IMPERIAL STOUT from LAGUNITAS gave us a comfortable base for our discussion. So if you're feeling flush go to Adam's campaign and donate some cash to FilmWax! Pull a chair up to the table at the Big Feast and find out! Bon appetite.
