Writer/director Darren Aronofsky is a natural filmmaker. He likes to take risks; the kind of risks that a director like Lars von Trier or John Cassavettes would envy.
Aronofsky’s cinematic interpretation of telling a story via a constant barrage of emotion, musical inflection, sped-up real time sequences colludes to form a cinematic shorthand. The film plays across an audience’s sense of time and social values unlike that of any other filmmaker.

Aronofsky co-wrote “Requiem For A Dream” (rated NC-17) with noted American novelist Hubert Selby, Jr. (“Last Exit To Brooklyn”), and cast the movie with a remarkable assembly of actors including Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans. 
“Requiem For A Dream” is a movie about drug addiction, but that’s only where the plot resides so the thoroughly drawn characters can work toward their imperfect dreams.
Cinema history has been made with this provocative and stunning film.
