Call this the "shoot-your-career-in-the-foot-Oscars" for James Franco and Melissa Leo.
Franco was either too stoned or lazy to bring any energy to his lackluster performance as a host. Melissa Leo gave, what will go down in history as the most crass thank-you-speech in Oscar history. It looks doubtful that Leo will ever live to see another Oscar nomination. As for James Franco, that college degree he's working on might just land him a day job outside the acting profession.
Colin Firth gave the most eloquent speech of the evening. And the Oscars once again proved that it has no business allowing performances of Oscar-nominated songs. Even a verse-chorus-medely would be pushing it. Yet somehow the Academy never gets the memo.
