Director Terry Zwigoff (“Bad Santa”) presents a scathing satire of art school student existence but derails the movie, about a talented young artist (well-played by Max Minghella), with an artificial sub-plot about a campus serial killer.
Jerome Platz (Minghella) enters an elite East Coast art school fresh out of high school only to find out quickly that everyone associated with the school is stark raving mad.
Dream girl art model Audrey (Sophia Myles) steals Jerome’s heart while his sexually frustrated art teacher (John Malkovich) attempts to leverage a different part of Jerome’s anatomy in an ostensible return for better grades.
Poor timing and an undernourished script hamper potential laughs.
Rated R. 102 mins.
