It's shocking to me is how many people don't seem to get what an "axial cut" is.

Although sometimes improperly referred to as "cutting on action," the axial cut is an edit that moves the distance to a character further or closer to the viewer, by degree.

I'm curious how many of you might not understand exactly what an axial cut is from watching this video. I suppose it is a tool of the cinematographer, but you get a good look at more than a few examples in this video essay.
