ATL

57poster With its alienating title "ATL" (stands for Atlanta) is an unintended and equally abysmal companion piece to last year’s "Roll Bounce." Roller-skating brings together four African American high school boys from the wrong side of the tracks attempting to improve their lives after their approaching graduation. Rashad (Tip Harris) is the man of the household since his parents’ death in a car accident, and the revelation that his ghetto fabulous girlfriend New-New (Lauren London) is really a rich girl slumming it in South Atlanta comes as a crushing blow. Amateur camera work and conspicuous plotting reduce the film’s regional sensibilities to sleep-inducing pap.
Rated PG-13. 100 mins. (D) (One Star)
