Haley Joel Osment puts puberty to use in this fluffy drama about a boy abandoned by his selfish mother (Kyra Sedgwick).

Little Walter goes to live with his eccentric great uncles (Robert Duval and Michael Caine).

The old war vets keep a fortune in cash from their wild youth hidden in their secluded Texas house.

A criminal past may be the source of the money.

Hub (Duval) and Garth (Caine) take Walter (Osment) under their wing and share with him their exotic stories of romance, war, adventure, and lessons of manhood when they aren't satisfying their tastes for the arcane.

The uncles have a giraffe and a lion delivered to their property for the fun of it.

Duval and Caine make the film watchable, but there's too much gunplay for the movie to truly be the child-friendly entertainment that it pretends.
