"Not everything is as it seems for Cristi, a police inspector in Bucharest who plays both sides of the law. Embarked by the beautiful Gilda on a high-stakes heist, both will have to navigate the twists and turns of treachery and deception. A secret whistling language spoken on the Spanish island of La Gomera might just be what they need to pull it off."
Romanian auteur Cornelieu Porumboiu has become a regular fixture at Cannes, as well as a critical darling. Porumboiu's 2015 film "The Treasure" won the Prix Un Certain Talent prize screening un the festival's Un Certain Regard section. His 2006 debut feature "12:08 East of Bucharest" won the festival's Caméra d'Or prize. Cornelieu Porumboiu is a deft satirist with a dry sense of humor that bristles with trenchant social commentary. Screening in Competition, "The Whistlers" is an absolute must-see at this year's festival.
