Mira Sorvino knocked me out of my socks in Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite.” The movie is noting to write home about — Helena Bonham Carter barely registers — but Mira Sorvino rocks the movie like an angel with dirty thoughts. Sorvino won the 1995 Oscar for best supporting actress for “Mighty Aphrodite,” in which she plays Linda Ash, a Manhattan prostitute with theatrical aspirations who also happens to be the biological mother of Woody’s adopted kid. Sorvino also terrific in “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion” and “The Replacement Killers.” Check ’em out.
Mira Sorvino has been affiliated with Amnesty International since 2004. In 2006 she was honored with Amnesty International’s Artist of Conscience Award for having displayed longstanding philanthropic and humanist efforts. Mira Sorvino was a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador to Combat Human Trafficking (2009 — 2012). She has lobbied Congress to abolish human trafficking in Darfur.
