Satori

Nicholai Hel-genius, mystic, and the perfect assassin-was first introduced to readers in Shibumi, the classic #1 bestseller by master storyteller Trevanian. Shibumi went onto to worldwide fame with over 2.3 million copies sold, setting a benchmark for writers of all genres. SATORI by Don Winslow (Grand Central Publishing; March 30, 2012; $14.99), now available in trade paperback, resurrects the formidable Hel in an exciting new thriller set against the Korean War.

Twenty-six-year-old Hel-Western by birth but Asian by upbringing-speaks seven languages, kills with a naked hand, and is a master of the world’s most challenging game of strategy: Go. He also possesses “proximity sense,” an extra-awareness of the presence of danger.

All this has made him a very dangerous man-an assassin who blends in anywhere, doesn’t need weapons to kill his targets, and sees ten moves ahead. And now the CIA needs him.

Hel is released by the Americans from three years of solitary confinement on the condition that hekill a high-ranking Soviet official in China. Having honed his mental and physical skills during his confinement, Hel must survive this suicide mission to save his own life and the beautiful French spy whom he loves. He will endure chaos, violence, suspicion, and betrayal while also trying to achieve his ultimate goal of satori-the possibility of true understanding and harmony with the world.

SATORI is an unforgettable thriller that, as Booklist declared, will rivet readerswith its “…breathless suspense and a cast of dark, devious characters from all corners of the globe.”

SATORI has been optioned by Warner Brothers as a starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio with plans to film in 2013.  The screenplay is being written by Shane Salerno (Savages) & author Don Winslow.
