Since its release in 2009 the price on the Optoma HD8200 has come down considerably from the original mfsrp of $4,999. The model is currently going for “$2,949.99” on Amazon. It’s an attractive price for such a loaded unit. Be prepared for a serious instillation task as the HD8200 is no small projector.
From a 10’ throw I was able to achieve a 62” inch image of exceptional brightness and clarity under semi-dark to very dark conditions.

Placement of the unit on a direct-parallel plane opposite your screen is more crucial with the HD 8200 DLP 1080p than with some other projectors. If using a ceiling mount, be sure the mount hangs low enough.

The manual 1.5:1 zoom allows the user to manipulate the image focus with ease. As with other Optoma projectors the well-designed remote control is easy to use without resorting to the manual. Still, some features are buried and take special hunting to find. Optoma’s PureMotion is one example. Go Image > Advanced > PureEngine for PureMotion frame interpolation.

The HD8200 is a big projector for a big room. You can easily achieve greater than a 100” frame with a long enough throw. If you’re looking for an advanced DLP 1080p projector to deliver a theater-quality viewing experience, the HD8200 will fit the bill. However, you may require pro-instillation assistance. The fan on the unit is a bit loud, so you might consider using sound-housing around the projector. Placing the projector several or more feet behind audience seating is also a consideration.

The HD8200 comes with a three-year warranty.
