“The story revolves around an American filmmaking couple who retreat to the island island where Ingmar Bergman made films for the summer to each write screenplays for their upcoming films in an act of pilgrimage to the place that inspired Bergman. The lines between reality and fiction start to blur.”

“Bergman Island” is the seventh feature for French actress-turned-screenwriter/director Mia Hansen-Løve.

While not an obvious top pick to win the Palme d’Or, “Bergman Island” is poised for a warm welcome on the croisette.
