The Bush Administration’s insincere hunt for Osama Bin Laden is the metaphorical subtext of this vaguely accomplished high-concept satirical mishmash from writer/director Richard Shepard (“The Matador”).
Washed up TV news reporter Simon Hunt (Richard Gere) reunites with his old war journalist cameraman buddy Dick (Terrence Howard) in the dirt roads of Sarajevo and convinces Duck to join him in running down a hot tip bring in Bosnia’s most wanted war criminal “The Fox.”
The duo let neophyte reporter Benjamin (Jesse Eisenberg) come along for the ride that squares them in the sights of underworld killers mistaking them for a CIA hit squad. Things go from bad to weird when the real CIA arrives to put matters to rest.
“The Hunting Party” is a would-be political satire that paints itself into a corner before leaving a trail of unsightly footprints.
Rated R. 103 mins.
