Michel Gondry is king of the wet-fart movie.
Audiences who believed "Gondry's 2004 ode to bi-polar romance "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" promised a new direction in cinema were rewarded with the 2007 navel-picker "The Science of Sleep."
And for anyone who held out hope that Gondry could make it Hollywood had their hopes dashed with his 2008 disaster "Be Kind Rewind."
Which brings us to his family history documentary "The Thorn in My Heart."
The film's title references his gay cousin Jean-Yves's uncomfortable place in his former school-teacher mother Suzette Gondry's heart.
Gondry rambles between former countryside homes around France where his matriarch subject lived while exerting equally strict rules on her students as well as Jean-Yves, whose arrested development borders on mental incapacity.
Anyone can make a crappy home movie, but it takes an especially self-important one to think anyone other than their own family members want to watch it.
