WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT BOND

by

BondIt's never too early to look forward to the next James Bond film. With the massive success and high quality of "Skyfall," speculation as rampant as ever regarding the next James Bond movie, "Bond 24" is currently slated for a 2016 release and will once again star Daniel Craig as 007. What can we expect in this next installment? Here's a roundup of some of the rumors and news bits we've already seen.

To begin with, as noted at the franchise website 007.com, we've known since earlier this summer that director Sam Mendes ("Skyfall") will be returning for another go at Bond. For fans who are enjoying the direction that Daniel Craig's Bond has taken (generally darker and more vulnerable than past portrayals), this is certainly good news. Mendes has already done the franchise justice and then some.

Perhaps contrasting the selection of Mendes as director, however, is a report noted by The Telegraph that Craig is interested in "lightening up" the next film a bit. Really, we understand the idea — Bond is verging on becoming too serious, and could use a bit more cheekiness and a bit less Jason Bourne. Just for fun, here are a few ideas of how they could effectively add the characteristic dry humor and wit of 007 to the next film.

  •  Banter With The Staff – The last film got very serious regarding the death of M (Judi Dench), and didn't allow much room for jokes or cheekiness. With a new MI6 staff in place, there's opportunity for more playfulness again.
  •  Gambling Practice – We know Daniel Craig's Bond can run the card tables, but is it just natural talent? It would be a great touch to see Bond spending downtime at betfaircasino.com, practicing his blackjack and poker skills in an online gaming community, and perhaps losing a bit of real cash.
  •  Self-Deprecation – We're used to Bond's dry jokes, but is 007 too cocky to take himself down a peg? Some self-deprecating humor could have some comedic shock value.

Finally, we also know the title of Bond 24. The film will be called "Devil May Care" —  an homage to Bond-creator Ian Fleming. The title comes from a 2008 novel that was written in honor of the 100th anniversary of Fleming's birth. Only time will tell if the film is true to the book, but if it is we may see Bond battling one Dr. Julius Gorner, a sinister chemist with an eye on the destruction of Great Britain.

So that's the roundup of what we know so far. But with the director and title chosen, the juicy details — the next Bond girl, the next Bond song, a bit of plot exposure, etc. – can't be far behind!
